Concerns for the future of CoD

Every time I log onto Modern Warfare/Cold War, I get so many pop-up messages trying to get me to buy things or install something. It honestly feels like using a sketchy 1990s internet browser with the amount of cancerous pop-ups in this game... Also, why doesn't Call of Duty use real gun names for a lot of their weapons anymore? Why are there people running around in Jigsaw masks? When did Call of Duty become a meme game? I feel like these last 2 installments are parody games instead of actual entries in the series. I would love to see a simple entry again. 2007-2012 were CoD's prime. I feel like it might be time to take a few years off from making a new one and regroup.

The real cod has been dead for a long time now. It will never come back because there is alot of money
too make on skins and camos. It seems that people like too look good when the enemy give them
the knife:)

As to the gun names,
COD doesn’t have the rights to use the names of the guns anymore. I bet you can look up as to why but cod just doesn’t have the rights to use them. Now as for the pop ups the reason why is probably due to the fact that almost every game out there is doing the same and they have to stay in competition in order to stay popular ( just look at all the wacky skins).

Honestly the good old days of the old ground and pound Call of Duty/Other Shooters are over as of now.

There isn't really much value in just creating a 60 dollar game plus a few well fleshed out DLC packs anymore.

I think until a new developer steps in and breaks that cycle or they find some different model to make a steady profit off us.... We are stuck with what we have.

Until then I'll ride that wave and stick with CoD4 remastered when I feel like having a cleaner balance.

I completely agree. Modern Warfare (2019) is the first step into the next gen first person shooter market. It seems like Infinity Ward wants 2019's Modern Warfare to become the norm for fps titles going forward. They got close enough to staying similar to CoD4, with one arm sticking out, and trying to capture the Battlefield market - its obvious with Ground War, and Warzone. This is the design philosophy they'll keep, but will begin to ask questions like "how far can we push Modern Warfare?" DICE kinda did with BF3 with the 120 player cap. People complained it was overkill, but I disagree. And we saw it with Fortnite.

I agree with the gun names thing. They've been sued multiple times by gun manufacturers and the humvee manufacturer - just for the likeness of their products.

I disagree with the pop up answer. The pop ups are there to mimic the old CoD4 "message of the day" design, and from there they used it as advertisement for whatever. I think it's more like "why not?"

The problem is the pop ups are in your face sometimes, when you load the game. They should really chill with the pop ups. Its fine to remind people, but loading it into every login gets tiring.

"We call this 'Pure O2'. This is the first of our planned upgrades, once we can roll back some of Halliday's ad restrictions. We estimate we can sell up to 80% of a individual's visual field before inducing seizures."
