Account linking issue led to two separate accounts with same COD/Activision ID (XBOX Series S)

Hey everyone!

First post here, so my apologies if some of these topics have already been discussed, but in an effort to better elaborate on my situation, I figured I'd create a fresh thread. Here's the rather convoluted scoop whittled down as much as I can without cutting out key details:

My son has been having issues with his XBOX Series S losing connection to the internet pretty persistently ever since he got it. A while back he got a warranty fix on it and it had been working for a few months, but then the issue persisted again. The other day, while my wife and I were away, my son did some research and found that a factory reset might help with his issues, so he did one, and since then that issue has pretty much subsided. The problem now (and the topic of this thread), is that once he did the reset, it logged him out of his XBOX profiles, which would usually be ok, but the problem is, he set up his own email and password on a whim one day and ended up forgetting the login credentials. As a result, he went ahead and decided to create a new email and XBOX profile to play COD on, and linked his COD/Activision account to the new email profile. The problem with that move is NOW he remembered his old email credentials, and he wants to move back, but Activision will not allow unlinking again, thus leaving his progression/battle pass/etc on an account where the game doesn't reside (only the profile that purchased it can play the full game... anyone else, only warzone). But the weird part is, when we log into his old account on the Activision website and look at the linked accounts, it still shows as linked to the one he wants. It just wont let him use it (probably because he somehow got it tied up with two differing email addresses/profiles

Whew... sorry, that ended up longer winded than I expected. Are there any instances where you folks have encountered these types of hurdles and gotten the account swapped back through your own means, or Activision directly? Or is the only true way for him to use it for the next 12 months to either only play WZ, or re-buy the game?

Thanks in advance for any info you can provide!
