STEAM - COD MW II

Problem:
Sometimes when I'm playing COD MW II (Steam), out of nothing the game crash.
Everything stops and program is closed. Does anybody knows how to fix it?

I've tried and what happened:
- Set COD to "high priority".
- Verify the game files through steam platform. It always shows me kind of 32 "corrupted" files. But, the platform can't help fixing it.
- Close background operations. But, this one gave me a lot of problem because in some point I was able to turn off the pin to enter my windows.

Try to completely remove the game with Steam then reboot your system and then do a full clean install again to see if that works. If there are 32 corrupted files then there is definitely an issue somewhere.

What are your system specs if you dont mind me asking?

Hey Cascadia,
thanks for your advice!

Unfortunately that was one of the things I did too. I forgot to mention it :/
When I set cod with "high priority" the problem wasn't eliminated, but delayed it a little bit.
I though it could be related with some kind of gpu update needed. But the gpu driver I'm using is the last release ...

Yeah, no problem.
My specs are:

- MOTHERBOARD: Asus z-490 Plus TUF Gaming
- CPU: Intel Core i5-10400
- MEMORY: Corsair 32GB (2x16GB) 3600Mhz
- STORAGE: 2 x SSD Nvme 480GB and 2 x SSD Sata 1TB (All WD Green)
- GPU: Palit RTX 3070
- PSU: Sharkoon Silent Storm 850w

Another thought crossed my mind so I went deep forensic.....

When you uninstall a game, usually any game, it can leave folders and files that we do not think of outside of the game directory. Take a look at the screenshot below and then go looking for the same thing. If you find it then I would suggest deleting that call of duty folder. You may very well have to reinstall the game again after or sometimes it will rebuild itself but I wouldn't count on that.

I was looking at the specs for your video card (Palit RTX 3070) and I was wondering about the PCI-E power connector. Is there only on 8 pin connector or more? Regardless, since you are running with an 850w power supply make very sure that the power cable is coming directly from the power supply and not daisy chained to anything else. Power supply to video card.

Also went to the manufacturer site for that card and there are a number of files for that card. Not sure if you have run them but always worth a shot. I would also suggest sticking with drivers from nvidia direct from their site.

Click here for the manufacturer files!

Hey Cascadia,
Wow! You dived in deep!
Thank you a lot!
I'm going to answer all your previous posts here

1- About something running in the background: The last time I checked there was no virus. But I'm going to check it again. I though it could be some kind of program running in the background. Then I followed a tutorial where guy taught how to close those background running programs ... but it didn't work :/

2- About uninstall and cleaning all files: Although I uninstalled COD before, I didn't do the steps you provided here about cleaning the remaining files. Maybe for this reason when I installed again, the same issue was hitting (like when, from steam, we run that procedure where they check the game files, and the same 38 corrupted files where appearing). So, I gonna follow your instructions to uninstall and clean full.

3- About my GPU: There are two 8-pin entries on the GPU, both are plugged directly from my PSU. Maybe can be something related to those files you mentioned available in the manufacturer website. The NVIDIA drive is already running with last version. But about other files, I haven't worked on them.
---

I will implement those suggestions and then I bring the results ^^
Once more, thank you!

Hey Carlos,
Exactly man! This is really nice from everybody!
Hey fords8 man,
Yeah, I running with the last version available.
But, I'm gonna try to update other files related to the GPU

Any luck yet? If you got it working please share how you fixed it so that others can benefit!!
Hey Cascadia,
Sorry, for the late answer!
Actually I did yesterday night the steps you provided about cleaning the remaining files of cod.
So as you showed, there were some files in the C: . So I deleted them, and install COD once more. Though the 38 corrupted files still are indicated by steam, I haven't experienced any break. I'll keep running the game for a while to check if it really worked. If it doesn't, then I'll focus on the files related to the GPU. Maybe I should update the bios? ...

There is another freakin folder in Documents too... lol

I mean, those were the files I also found in my computer. So, I deleted them and install COD again ...***

It is never a bad idea to update the bios!! It also doesnt hurt to look to see if there is a firmware update for the video card. EVGA (my video card manufacturer) has a nifty program to monitor and adjust the card. It is called Precision X1 and would probably work with any nvidia based card.

LOL, cant edit my post above so here is what I forgot......

When I installed Precision it also installed a DirectX update.

Nice, Precision X1, I'm already downloading it. Thanks!
Yeah, today I'm going to keep playing and see if problem remains.
If it does, then gonna focus in the GPU.
And tomorrow I also come back here to say if it crashed again or not.

Hey what's up everybody!

I think I could resolve the problem finally.

I was researching more content of people who experienced the same problem and then I found a video where it's given some paths to deal with it. And the explanation provided really makes sense.
--

The steps which I followed is basically to turn off the "Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling" option. (Windows system).

I'm using windows11 and found this option with the following path:
(DISPLAY -> GRAPHICS -> DEFAULT GRAPHICS SETTINGS)

--

I followed the advice and I've been running COD without that problem.

*** And, just because I could see that the guy was also with the "Variable refresh rate" off, I kept the same in my computer. And even because playing COD I set a FPS limit, so have this option seems like doesn't make sense at all. At least to play COD. ***

He actually gives more than one way to tackle this issue, but the first path seems was enough.

About the BIOS of my GPU I checked it was running the latest version, and also the drivers. And the problem is in this last one. This version of driver and the hardware-accelerated option mentioned above generate the problem.

Thank you all for the support!!
