Just getting back to it....online playing.

Hi all, newb here.

Back in the day I was a PS freak up to PS3......had every really cool FPS, loved the war game one's........ but when the PS4 came out I never got one due to life getting in the way a bit.......and when the good games stopped coming for the PS3 I stopped playing.

Well, due to the Corona virus I decided to buy a PS4 Pro and bought it the day before the stores were closed. I bought one game for it......Black Ops 4. The person at the store convinced me it had single player capability. Not so and I am disappointed. I have downloaded the update twice because all the games were locked and I thought I had a bad download.

Anyway.........so I'm ready to give online gaming a try with this game so my money is not lost. Problem is......the first and last time I tried it...I kept getting killed by 10 yr old gamers and I am just not interested in playing like that. No disrespect, under 20's have to have a blast too........but I am too old for that and I would prefer to play with people in my age range....as well as.......my skill level and lack of online gaming experience. Folks like me who are just getting in to it. Obviously I don't have any friends who play.......most guys I know who are my age are lame about these things.

What can you guys recommend as a good jumping off place to ease into online gaming? Seriously, getting killed over and over, right out the gate....because guys who do this all the time know how to get you......well, it sucks!! I'd like a chance to get better and grow with online play, while still enjoying myself.

While I am here......what single player FPS games are really great on PS4? I don't do fantasy or sci-fi type stuff and I hate the driving and sports games. Prefer war and similar, crime etc. Also liked Black Rain and The Last Of Us, cop/detective/crime stuff etc etc a bit, but definitely WWII and modern war fighting are my passion.

Last question. Remember how you used to always have to punch in the serial number of each new game before you could play it. Has that gone away? I did not see a serial number in my new Black Ops 4 game.

Dumbass store person. Black Ops 4 was always "online only." There is a "single player" but it's not what you're expecting. The majority of BO4 is Multiplayer, BlackOut, and Zombies - all online modes.

I wouldn't expect you to like this game for a different reason. You're dying a lot is because of the way the spawns are in the game. Ever notice that, with each map, you're always respawning at the same place? That's called spawn trapping - Where you're spawned into the same place over and over again. The thing is, though, people know this - so they exploit this. I bought BO4, and dropped the game immediately after weeks of learning how people play the game. The game is trash in my opinion.

Learn the maps. Learn which weapon is your favorite are two of my main advices. This advice doesn't really work on Black Ops 4, for the reason I explained above.

Sniper Elite 4 is right up your alley. It's cheap nowadays. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019) is out right now. Warzone is on fire, but the download size is big and enormous. Recommendation if you're going to buy a new PS4 game: Get Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, and download the new patch which comes with Warzone. That'll cut your download time by half. Why? Because most of the assets in Warzone is derived FROM Warzone. A lot of people don't realize that.

We're in April, so the next Call of Duty title should start to be hyped up in the days ahead or weeks ahead. Mid April to Early May is the typical timeline for the new Call of Duty reveal.

Yeah. Those codes are gone, with some exceptions, like pre-orders. Like, I was expecting to find it in my Doom Eternal pre-order, but it was empty. I had to go to my retailer to get Doom 64 for free. (Ugh.)
