Using spotter hack 15 pieces of equipment?

That's definitely a hard challenge to do. I did it in Season Two, and the way I did it was I think pressing Square, or the R3 button. But the idea is, you need to be next to the object, pressing a button... and it stops the equipment from "working."

I just went up to an unmanned turret type thing, l tried those buttons didn’t seem to do anything. Can it be any equipment? This particular turret wasn’t shooting but it still didn’t count as a hack?

You have to have the Spotter perk to do it, and I don't think the perk applies to killstreaks. I could be wrong on that, but you have to press a button to get the hacking going.

I've only managed to get the spotter perk to hack mines and claymores, it definitely doesn't work on shield turrets.

To hack you just need to get close enough to the enemy equipment and a prompt will come up telling what button/key to hold in order to hack.

I have only managed 6 or 7 hacks, but it is really satisfying to hack a mine, back away, shoot randomly and then watch the person that laid the mine get killed by it.

I'll try again in season 4.

Thanks for letting me know it works on mines and claymores! I will look more carefully to find them.
So if l hacked a mine, the person who set it there, do they have to be there to be blown up? Or would they get blown up no matter where they are?

You only need to hack the claymore/mine to get your point.

Killing someone with the mine is more for personal satisfaction, it's even more satisfying when you can lure someone to the hacked mine to kill them, but I don't think we get rewarded for that.

If the person that placed the mine dies then the mine will simply vanish. That's really annoying when you're hacking it at the time, it's happened to me a few times that way, also if they die after you hacked the mine it will disappear but you get the point for the hack and not what happens to its owner.

You could always play now and get to say 14 hacked pieces of equipment then leave it till season 4 starts so you can gain the XP and help level up to Level 56 faster. (I can't claim the credit for that idea though, it was @Knifecutright2 that suggested it this post on my Birthday ;) last week).
